"Growing Concern over Toxins in Skincare"
For those of you that
have been following the news reports, you know that there is a growing
concern over the chemicals that are found in personal care products and
cosmetics.
That is why Garden Girl is pleased to announce that we have recently
signed the Compact for Safe Cometics. Garden Girl was created to
provide an alternative to the big-name products that are packed with
ingredients and chemicals that pose serious potential threats. Check
out the agreement, and see the list of more than 500 companies that
have signed it, by going to Compact for Safe Cosmetics
You may be surprised to see that many companies have refused to sign
the agreement. Industry leaders like Estee Lauder, L'Oreal, Mary Kay,
Avon, and even Origins and Aveda are not on the list. Why? Well, quite
simply they have grown attached to their formulas and appear to believe
that this is all "hype." However, it seems pretty clear that this is
not a fad - these concerns are only continuing to grow.
This past week, a new report was published by the Investor
Environmental Health Network, "a collaboration of investment managers
encouraging companies to adopt 'safer chemicals' policies for cosmetics
and other products." The report, entitled "Beneath the Skin: Hidden Liabilities, Market Risk and Drivers of Change in the Cosmetics and Personal Care Products Industry"
attempts to convey that industry leaders should understand that the
growing concern about safety is not the only issue, but that there
could be a significant financial risk as well. Maybe this kind of
publicity will start to get the attention of the "big guys?"
Regardless, it is good to know that the potential health concerns are
being publicly addressed. We can only hope that the end result will be
to the benefit of us all.
